CONCEPT
The Concept for Planet Hollywood was originated by Keith Barish, the film producer responsible for "Sophie's Choice", "9 1/2 Weeks" and, "The Fugitive". He met Robert Earl was desribed as the world most successful concept restauranteurs in 1989, and the two struck up a partnership.
Soon afterwards, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis joined as shareholders and within a year lease had been signed on the New York site situated next to Carnegie Hall. Demi more signed on as shareholder during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Washington, D.C location, which opened in October of 1993.The first Planet Hollywood was launched in New York in October 1991.Thousands of enthusiastic onlookers turned out to catch a glimpse of Bruce Willis and his Rhythm & Blue Band, The Accelerator, as they celebrated the opening of the restaurant.
Visitor to Planet Hollywood can expect to see some the world's most valuable movie and television memorabilia. Among the hundreds of artifacts on display are items from the shareholder's also be presented by members of the film industry at special ceremonies inside the restaurant. A popular feature for visitors to restaurant will be handprint wall. Among the film and television stars that have already donated their palm prints are: Paul Newman, Tom Arnold, Roseanne, Lauren Bacall, and Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Goldie Hawn, Danny Glover, Jim Belushi, Sigourney Weaver, Joe Pesci, Cahrlie Sheen, Jean Claude Van Damme, Jimmy Stewrad, Whitney Houston, Luke Perry, Clint Eastwood and the principals.
In addition to the extensive memorabilia, the dinning experience is further enhanced, as guests are able to view preview trailers to soon to be released movies. Planet Hollywood features the latest in audio visual technology and when trailers are not playing, costum designed videos are often displayed on screens throughout the restaurant with music from movie sound tracks playing in the background.
